An auto accident death is tragic. These sudden and unexpected deaths are stressful and emotional experiences for survivors, families, and friends.

What Are The Major Causes Of Fatal Car Accidents?

Each year, tens of thousands of people die from car wreck injuries across the United States. A car wreck fatality can have several causes. Driver error, weather, size of the vehicles, number of vehicles involved, point of impact, or mechanical failures are just a few of those factors. If your loved one was killed in a traffic accident, a New York car accident lawyer can help.

According to car wreck reports, the major causes of fatal car accidents include:

  • Distracted driving
  • Reckless driving
  • Drunk driving
  • Drowsy driving
  • Speeding
  • Poor road conditions

Leading factors for all car crashes in New York City in 2023 included:

  • Distracted driving
  • Failure to yield right-of-way
  • Following too closely
  • Speeding or driving too slowly
  • Disobeying road traffic controls

Based on this data, driver negligence or recklessness appears to be the biggest contributing factor to fatal car crashes.

How Many Car Accidents Result in Injuries?

Thousands of people are seriously injured in car accidents every year. Statistics show that on average, there are 12,093 hospitalizations annually in the state of New York due to car accidents.

An experienced personal injury attorney can help you to file a car accident claim or wrongful death claim.

When Do Most Car Accidents Happen?

While statistics show that thousands of people are killed in car crashes annually across the United States and in New York, certain times of the day and year seem to account for the most accidents.

Moreover, fatal car crashes tend to happen more often on weekends, particularly on Saturdays.

  • October: 3,620 crashes
  • May: 3,467 crashes
  • July: 3,410 crashes

Holidays with higher travel may account for the increase in the number of traffic accidents.
